Helps calm down meltdowns much quicker

My 5 year old used to crawl under furniture when she got overwhelmed and would kick and scream and wouldn’t let us touch her at all. Now when things get too intense she crawls into this and just self soothes and calms down so fast!

Helped my kids so much I had to get another one

Both my kids have autism and this really helped both of them to learn to cope and self-regulate. We do sessions so both get a turn but they just like being in it so much and started fighting over it that I had to buy another haha.

Will my child use it, or will it end up in the closet?

Most kids take to it within the first week. The cocoon shape taps into what sensory kids already do – hide under blankets, crawl behind the couch, burrow into pillows. You’re giving a better outlet for an instinct they already have.

Is this designed for kids with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing needs?

Yes. The deep pressure, the gentle motion, and the enclosed shape are the same regulation principles OTs use with kids who have autism, ADHD, and sensory processing differences. It’s the same kind of therapy swing they’d recommend at the clinic, sized for your home.

My child is a sensory seeker, not a sensory avoider. Will it still help?

Yes, often more than parents expect. Avoiders use it to retreat. Seekers use it for the input they’re constantly looking for, such as climbing, swinging, full-body squeeze. Both get what they need.

How long should my child use it at a time?

15-30 minutes per session. Most kids settle within 10. Vestibular input is powerful, and longer can leave a kid more dysregulated, not less. If you see flushed face, sudden dizziness, or unusual irritability, end the session and try a shorter one next time.

Is my ceiling strong enough?

Most homes have joists strong enough. Mount into a structural joist or beam, never drywall alone. A $10 stud finder confirms what’s behind your ceiling in 30 seconds. If you have concrete, suspended, or vaulted ceilings without accessible joists, check with a contractor first.

What size space do I need?

A clear 5-6 foot circle around the swing and 7-8 feet of ceiling height. If you’re tight, hang it in a corner with the swinging arc clear.

What's in the box, and do I need anything else to set it up?

The sensory hammock (9.2 × 4.9 ft), a connecting strap, a lock buckle, an extension strap, and care instructions. The one thing not included is the ceiling hook. The right one depends on your ceiling type, and a generic option would mean compromising on safety.

How much weight can it hold? Can I climb in with my child?

The swing is rated up to 660 lb, so yes, you can climb in with your child when they need co-regulation, and older kids and teens can use it without worry. For younger children especially, sometimes the calmest path through a meltdown is climbing in together. The fabric and hardware are built for it. Just make sure your ceiling mount is rated to match.

My child is in occupational therapy. Will this replace it?

No, and it’s not meant to. The swing is a home tool that supports the work your OT is already doing. Many therapists actively recommend home sensory swings to extend regulation practice between visits. If you’re unsure, ask your OT directly.

Can my child use it casually, not just during meltdowns?

Yes, and that’s how it works best. Kids who climb in to read or watch a show are getting low-key regulation all day, which often means fewer meltdowns to begin with. Treat it like a favorite chair, not a tool you pull out when things go wrong.

What if my kid hates it?

Some kids need a few tries before they trust it. A few things that help:

Climb in yourself first, swing slowly, and let them watch.
Hang it lower at first so they’re not as high up
Put a favorite toy inside, and let them swing the toy first
Don’t force or bribe your kid. Leave it in the room and let curiosity do the work.

Is it safe for rough or impulsive kids?
